It used to “take two to tango,” but since 2004 the women of Tango Con*Fusión bend the gender-related customs of this century-old dance. As artists we explore the idiom of Argentine Tango beyond its traditional boundaries.
When I met TangoCon*Fusión, I understood that Tango has no limits, that tango is free, is diversity, is art and is for everyone!
TangoCon*Fusión is a group that inspires, accompanies and renews you!
My experience was really nourishing, wonderful, meeting women of different generations, each one with their own trajectory, their own history, so much diversity, and we are all bonded by the love and dedication to tango, because we are driven women who dance life at the rhythm of tango.
"Congratulations Tango Con*Fusión.
I am honored that I have been there to witness and spark your beginnings.
You paved the way for so many women and today, like 20 years ago, it is still crucial to see and experience your art. Thank you for being there !
If I had to choose one word to describe my Tango Confusion friends, I would say UNIQUE. They have developed a style of performances like no other. Since the first time they performed at La Marshall, I have enjoyed every single time I saw them dancing... Emotions, nice stories, beautiful outfits, and perfect technic combined in one tango make their performances... UNIQUE. When a revolution lasts in time becomes a classic...I send my biggest hug to my revolutionary classic friends of Tango Confusion.
“They always bring a fresh perspective and interesting approach to the art of Argentine Tango, it is exciting for us to see how they will interpret our music and what story they will tell with their dancing.”
“Collaborating with the women of Tango Con*Fusión on original material has been a pleasure,” They intuitively connect with the heart of the music and highlight the personal aspects from a place of deep connection, from within both a tango perspective and a broader arts mindset.”
"Nothing is confusing about the vision of Tango Con*Fusión. San Francisco’s all-women dance company is laser-focused on building on the tradition of the century-old dance."
“Our award-winning music is not your mother’s tango, and they were able to adjust and put forth a great choreography yet have the innovative approach to suit the blend of music and dance to be performed at an emblematic theatre like Zitarrosa (in Montevideo) and Salon Canning (in Buenos Aires) full of tango purists, and the Queer Milonga full of progresistas. That’s what Tanghetto’s music is about and we share that artistic goal with the dancers of this company.”
Here in San Francisco, it’s the women of Tango Con*Fusión that I consider brave. By taking a chance on an all-woman tango company, almost unheard of at the time, they have gone against traditional thinking about what is Argentine Tango and how it is meant to be danced. READ ARTICLE HERE
We do not merely imitate men. We dance as women who lead. We explore the creative switching of lead and follow roles. This egalitarian alternative to the traditional model of ‘male leader/female followers’ portends a cultural shift of power within tango and catalyzes the evolution of the art.

Did I like the show? I loved it! Sophisticated, subtle, erotic, intelligent, so feminine, romantic, exquisite, almost surrealistic... mix of music, singing, dance, pantomime, visual effects and shocking surprises.
And such a sweet perfect ending - exactly like (a) milonga ends in the darkness of the night.
The whole performance streams like a dance, like a milonga, and like... life...
The show greatly exceeded my expectations.
At the last second of the show I wanted to see it all again immediately!
"San Francisco’s Tango Con*Fusion obliterates the gendered stereotypes of seduction and suspicion that have made tango as predictable as it is immemorial… The dancers expand on the form’s traditions, proving that it can be both intelligent and innovative – and of course, that it doesn’t always take two to tango."
"The leading ladies of tango think men are just dandy. The thing is, men are used to leading… Ladies break a tango taboo, and have fun doing it." READ ARTICLE HERE
"Dancers Christy Coté, Chelsea Eng, Debbie Goodwin, Michelle Loughlin and Pier Voulkos… are choreographing work that expresses a new tango, a very unusual tango, a tango that is exciting and innovative in the extreme… I can think of few companies that bring such passionate innovation to the very idea of contemporary tango than Tango Con*Fusión."
"This version of tango is another step in the evolution of one of the most extraordinary dance genres ever created. While remaining true to its heritage, this is not the tango of yesteryear; it is not even the tango of yesterday; it is the tango of today. Very impressive."
"Tango Con*Fusión… though a relatively new group, there is much potential for choreographic innovation here… Lush costumes and lighting added to the sensuous performance style of these women, providing a rich finish to a strong second half of the Collaboration 2004."
Wonderful… An eye-opener.
