One of the magnificent things about dance performances is the immediate and evanescent nature. Sadly, as quickly as the dance happens, it vanishes into the memories of the audience, dancers, choreographers, and production crew. Very few small, low-budget dance companies can present an archive of 20 years of video documentation.
Tango Con*Fusión would like to thank John Campbell as the founder of AlmaVideo, along with Peter Ivory, for this collection and their continued documentation of our dance projects.
“Becoming” stories the journey of women struggling to find themselves within the confines of our dominant culture's image of the perfect woman. Tango Con*Fusión's vision is a hopeful one, where each woman does indeed break free from ingrained, imaginary norms of "ideal" female beauty and, most importantly, value. We find peace and empowerment in who we really are. We see and celebrate a world where we women no longer hold constraints ourselves or hold our sisters back; rather we rejoice in our individuality and encourage each other to become one with who we are, really.
