Debbie is the organizing force behind the all-women dance company, Tango Con*Fusión, where she devotes her artistic attention as director, choreographer and featured dancer.
Debbie & her husband/tango partner John Campbell run Alma del Tango Dance Studio in San Anselmo, California where they offer a full program of beginning to advanced Argentine tango dance classes, a weekly práctica and monthly milonga (social dance). Their ongoing mission is creating a local community of dancers in Marin County, California that share a common passion for Argentine Tango.
"I love the ALL WOMAN aspect of our company. It's a special energy. We lead, we follow, we create together!
I like to work with themes that affect women, not only in tango but in life in general. This has been very rewarding."
I loved creating and making fun of the stereotypical "macho-male" tango dancer with Christy Cote. Here, dressed as men, we perform to "El Chamyo" in the theatrical production "Leading Ladies of Tango" at the Herbst Theater in SF in 2006.
In 2010 we were thrilled to be invited by Fabian Salas to perform at CITA - Congresso International de Tango Argentino.
"Embrace" was one of our first full-length pieces we created and it remains a favorite of mine, audiences and performers.
Working with Mariana is always a pleasure as her technique is spot on! Here we created a technically challenging and musical piece depicting the scandalous Parisian women of the 1910 tango craze that swept Europe.
Choreographing this trio with Rose Vierling was challenging and fun. We performed it in various locales but there was something very special about performing it at Salon Canning in Buenos Aires for Johana Copes's Lady's Tango Week in 2017.
